Arrival in Friuli Venezia Giulia - Natisone Valleys
Individual arrival in the Natisone Valleys and accommodation in the PREPOTTO / CASTELMONTE area.
Free time for a walk to the Sanctuary of Castelmonte, also known as the Sanctuary of the Blessed Virgin of Castelmonte, one of the oldest and most revered Marian sanctuaries in Northern Italy. Located in the municipality of Prepotto, it stands on a hilltop offering breathtaking panoramic views of the valley below. Alternatively, you can hike to Monte Spig, a mountain in the Friulian Prealps known for its natural beauty and hiking opportunities. On the slopes of Monte Spig stands the church of San Nicolò, dedicated to Saint Nicholas of Bari, the patron saint of children, sailors, and travelers.

Discovering Natisone Valleys
Breakfast and overnight stay at a farmhouse.
Visit to the SMO Museum, multimedia museum of landscapes and narratives in San Pietro al Natisone. It is an important cultural and historical center located in the town. This museum is dedicated to the cultural landscape of the Slovenian people in the border area, following a narrative rather than a collection logic. The museum is easily accessible and offers guided tours that take visitors through its various sections.
Continuation of the tour with a stop for lunch on your own.
Visit to the Grotta d’Antro, a natural wonder located near San Pietro al Natisone. It is famous for its unique location, a not very large cave that extends into the depths of the mountain, characterized by beautiful limestone formations. Due to its geological and natural significance, access to the Grotta d’Antro is subject to safety rules to ensure the best possible visitor experience.

3rd day
Discovering Natisone Valleys
Breakfast and overnight stay at an inn.
Hike along the Monte Matajur nature trail. It is a circular hiking route that winds along the entire mountain at various elevations, from 300 to 1400 meters. Located on the border between Italy and Slovenia in Friuli, this itinerary is renowned for its spectacular panoramic views and the opportunity to immerse oneself in the pristine nature of the Julian Prealps. Along the trail, there are several points of interest and panoramic viewpoints. In summary, it offers an exceptional experience for nature and hiking enthusiasts, providing spectacular vistas, biodiversity, and a direct connection to the region’s history. Return in the late afternoon.

4th day
CIVIDALE DEL FRIULI - Goodbye In Friuli Venezia Giulia
Breakfast.
Departure for Cividale del Friuli for a self-guided tour of this important picturesque city located in the Friuli region. Founded by the Romans in 50 B.C. as Forum Iulii, it has a rich and fascinating history reflected in its architecture, traditions, and the surrounding natural beauty. The city hosts numerous cultural events and festivals throughout the year. Among the most famous is the Palio di San Donato, recalling medieval traditions. During the summer, Cividale del Friuli also hosts concerts, theatrical performances, and art exhibitions that attract visitors from across the region.
